About Us

The site of the Pilgrim's first landing-the Cape has more than three and a half centuries of proud history. Countless opportunities are available for scouts to explore, discover and learn about the origins of their nation. Local scouts and their units are active participants in the restoration and preservation of many historic sites.

Barnstable County is comprised of 15 towns. While the county operates the jail and courthouse, towns are nearly all run on the town meeting style of government. Often called the purest form of democracy, town meetings provide an opportunity for Cape Scouts to witness "Government by the People" and, on occasion, to become active participants.

Cape Cod is 400 square miles of land surrounded by Cape Cod Bay to the North, the Atlantic Ocean to the East, Nantucket and Vineyard Sounds to the South, and the Cape Cod Canal to the West. It is cratered with hundreds of ponds and lakes and etched by many rivers and creeks. Animal, plant and marine life abounds profusely.

Through the Scouting program, our youth acquire the knowledge, skills and motivation to protect and preserve this sensitive environment. Local Scouts provide many hours of service to conservation and preservation organizations of their towns, county and state.

Oh yes, we should mention that the Cape is a wonderful place for keeping the "outing" in Scouting. Miles of bicycling trails and hiking paths to explore. State parks, nature preserves and acres of open space for orienteering through. And, of course, plenty of water for swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, wind surfing, motor boating, scuba diving, and fishing.
